This Independence Day, my dad and I decided to treat ourselves by visiting the Doo Dah Parade downtown. For those who don't know or live in the Ohio area, the Doo Dah Parade is an event held every Fourth of July dedicated to everything satirical and irreverent. Every hot political/ pop culture subject you can imagine is skewered, as well as any liberal propaganda you can imagine. From Paula Dean to Kim Kardasian to Gordon Gee, no one was safe.
One of the best moments of the day was when fake Applebee's employees came marching down to promote a restaurant opening in the Short North. For those who aren't familiar with the area, the Short North is an area with a strong dedication towards local arts and restaurants, and has fought numerous times in the past to keep franchises out. Me, my dad, the guy that owned the piercing shop we were sitting at, and everyone before that was booing them, until one of the "waiters" finally told us it was a joke. though with his convincing uniform (with a badge and everything), you couldn't possibly tell.
So if you're ever in the Columbus area during the 4th of July, be sure to check it out. I know I've found a new annual routine.
